                                                     What We Do

Picture
At Roy’L Acres farm our dream is to provide our community with naturally grown, tasty food of the highest quality. We manage two gardens on our property, Le Jardin and the Manna Garden.

Le Jardin feeds our family and our extended family while the Manna garden helps to nourish our community. The Manna garden is 16 000 sqaure feet. Here we grow a variety of organic heirloom produce .

Roy’L Acres also specializes in micro greens, shoots and edible flowers. Micro greens are plants that are harvested young while they are small and bursting with flavour and nutrients. Their colourful unique leaves and delicious taste have made micro greens an essential in the culinary world and are used as garnish on almost every plate. Find our micro greens and vegetables in shops and restaurants such as the Garden Gate in Flersherton, the Flying Chesnut in Eugenia, in Thornbury, The Simplicity Bistro, Bruce Wine Bar and various restaurants in Collingwood.

You can find us at the Collingwood Community Food Co-op  or order straight from the farm.

                                                    The Dirt on Micro Greens

Picture
Micro greens are plants that are harvested while young, generally after they form their first few leaves and usually when they are only an inch or so high. These seedlings are less then two weeks old and are tiny and delicate.  Micro greens have 4-6 times more nutrients than the mature leaves of the same plant.

Micro Greens are Not Sprouts
Micro greens are often mistaken for sprouts but they are not the same thing.  Sprouts are seeds that are germinated in water, typically in the dark for 48 hours,  just long enough to grow roots, a stem and underdeveloped leaves.  Micro greens need soil and light and at least 7 -14 days to grow before harvesting.

Live and Fresh
Micro greens can be bought cut or in the tray they are grown in so they can be used live and fresh.  They can be used as an accent to sandwiches, salads and mains.  They are highly popular among leading chefs for their texture, taste and delight.  Each variety has its own unique flavor and nutritional benefits.
